TIANJIN, China, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Team China player Zhang Lu was expelled from the national team and suspended from all football-related competitions from Sept. 26, 2019 to Sept. 25, 2020 after drunk driving, Chinese Football Association (CFA) announced on Friday.

Zhang was sentenced to four months in prison for dangerous driving and fined 10,000 yuan, according to the local district court in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, captain of the Chinese Super League club Tianjin Tianhai, was detained for drunk driving in evening on Sept. 18. His blood alcohol test was 253.3mg/100ml.

Liu Dianqiu, Chinese national football team leader, made an apology to the public. He said the national team would strengthen education and guidance against the law-breaking cases, enhance institutional construction and establish players' sense of rule.

The announcement said all football clubs and players should learn a lesson from Zhang's event, strengthen self-management and cherish the good development environment of Chinese football.
