XI'AN, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Shaanxi province, known for the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, finished its first phase of the ground-breaking edition of provincial basketball league on Monday.
12 men's teams from 12 cities and districts in Shaanxi met in Wugong county in the event's first phase with Xi'an and Yulin emerging the league leaders. The second phase competitions will begin after the China's National Day golden week.
The home-and-away system will be adopted in the next competition days and the winner will be decided in December.
According to a press release by the Shaanxi Basketball Association , the winner of the 2019 Shaanxi Basketball League will be awarded with 50,000 yuan (about 7020 U.S dollars), the teams who win the second place and the third will earn 30,000 yuan and 10.000 yuan respectively.
"Shaanxi Basketball League is a formal competition. The game had its own official mascots, two pretty terracotta warriors. What's more, we had designed an outstanding trophy for the champion," said Wang Libin, the president of Shaanxi Basketball Association.
"I hope basketballers of Shaanxi Province will get better and make bigger contribution to the development of basketball in China," Wang said.
