HELSINKI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and ten others injured in a violent incident that occurred in Kuopio, eastern Finland, on Tuesday, Finnish national broadcaster Yle reported quoting local police.

The injured people, two of them seriously, were taken to hospital. The attacker was among the injured, said the Eastern Finland Police.

The incident took place on the premises of the Savo Vocational College, located in the building of the Herman shopping mall.

The police did not confirm the type of weapon that was used in the incident, but witnesses told Finnish media that a sword was used by an adult male.

The police said they will hold a press conference in Kuopio at 5 p.m. local time.

The city of Kuopio announced that crisis counselling has been arranged by the Red Cross at the scene for those affected.

Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne said on Twitter that the violence at Savo Vocational College is "shocking and completely unacceptable."

"The government is monitoring the situation closely. On behalf of myself and the government, I extend my condolences to all the relatives," said Rinne.
