Namibia names 15-man squad ahead of ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifier

WINDHOEK, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's senior cricket team will depart on Oct. 8 to take part in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Cricket Namibia on Wednesday said Namibia is one of the 14 teams that will take part in the qualifiers slated for October and November, which will qualify teams for the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

The squad will start their campaign with a couple of warm-ups before taking part in their first official match against the Netherlands on Oct. 19.

The Namibian squad recently participated in an ODI tri-series against Papua New Guinea and USA which was hosted in the USA, where they emerged top.

At a send-off ceremony on Sept. 30, Cricket Namibia Vice-President, Polly Negongo said that the achievement in the USA should encourage the squad to keep the momentum going and work even harder.

"Good luck, play hard and I know you can do it. Your performance over the past months have shown your capability," he said.

The 15 players to represent Namibia are: Gerhard Erasmus (c), Jan Frylinck (v/c), Bernard Scholtz, Helao Ya France, JJ Smit, Tangeni Lungameni, Zane Green, Christi Viljoen, Stephen Baard, Ben Shikongo, Craig Williams, Zhivago Groenewald, Niko Davin, Karl Birkenstock and JP Kotze.
