PARIS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Saint-Etienne moved off the bottom of the Ligue 1 table after a 1-0 win over Lyon, while last season's runners-up Lille drew 2-2 at home to Nimes in the ninth round of matches in France's top division on Sunday.
Claude Puel, appointed as Saint-Etienne's new coach on Friday, celebrated his first game in charge with a Rhone derby victory.
Robert Beric was the hero for Saint-Etienne, coming off the bench to head home a late winner with the match heading for a draw.
The win lifts Saint-Etienne from bottom to 13th, ahead of their Sunday rivals by two points.
Victor Osimhen scored a late goal to rescue Lille in a 2-2 draw with Nimes, keeping his side in the top five.
Despite a fantastic double save from goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni, Nimes still found themselves down in the 12th minute as Loic Remy reacted quickest to open the score.
The visitors leveled the score before half-time through Renaud Ripart's penalty, before Kevin Denkey put them ahead in the 71st minute.
But just when it seemed Nimes might take all three points, Nigerian forward Osimhen put the ball in the net from close range for his seventh goal of the season to rescue a draw.
Lille sit fifth, six points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while Nimes are placed 15th.
Elsewhere, Reims climb to sixth after triumphing 1-0 at Rennes.
