JAKARTA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- An annual mixed team badminton championship for talented junior players will be held from October 15 to 20 in the Indonesian city of Magelang, and will draw players of badminton clubs from six countries and regions, the organizer said here on Wednesday.
Director of the Junior Superleague, Achmad Budihardjo, said that the upcoming championship would draw 13 badminton clubs from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
"We will give opportunities for the junior players to play in the Thomas and Uber Cup tournament format," Achmad told a press conference here, referring to the world's prominent mixed team badminton tournament for senior players.
The number of foreign participants in the upcoming championship has expanded from three in last year's event, he added.
The championship will include men's and women's mixed team competitions in categories of U-17 and U-19, he said.
