ZHENGZHOU, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's Henan Province, one of the most populous provinces in the country, has registered a record number of 7,734 centenarians as of July, local authorities said Wednesday.
The city of Zhoukou has 1,085 centenarians, one in every 10,000, according to the provincial civil affairs department.
Statistics also show a rising trend of the number of centenarians as there are currently 2.45 million elderly people aged 80 to 99 in Henan.
The province has built 2,300 day care centers by the end of July to provide better community care for aged residents. A total of 1,621 medical institutions have carried out cooperation with local nursing houses.
China has witnessed a continuous rise in people's average life expectancy over the past seven decades, from 35 years in 1949 to 77 years in 2018, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
