RIYADH, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia affirmed on Saturday receiving an email from the Iranian vessel that was hit by explosions on Friday.

The General Directorate of Border Guards said in a statement on the Saudi Press Agency that the email was sent to Jeddah Radio at noon from the captain of the oil vessel SABITI, reporting the incident that caused an oil spill in the Red Sea.

After the information was analyzed by the coordination center, in order to provide any necessary assistance, it was found that the vessel continued operating, sailing 67 nautical miles in the southwest of Jeddah Port.

The vessel has closed the automated tracking system without responding to the coordination center's communications.

The last position of the vessel was updated to 79 nautical miles in the southwest of Jeddah Port, and 64 nautical miles away from the nearest point of the shore.

Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to the security and safety of maritime navigation, as well as international agreements and norms.

On Friday, two separate explosions hit the Iranian oil tanker SABITI in the Red Sea 60 miles off Saudi Arabia's Jeddah port city, Iranian official news agency IRNA reported.
