BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Workplace safety in China's mining industry continued to improve this year, with the number of both accidents and casualties dropping from a year earlier, official data showed Monday.
As of Oct. 12, 128 fatal accidents were recorded this year, down 28.1 percent year on year. The death toll declined 10.2 percent to 219 from the previous year, Shi Baozhong, spokesman for the National Coal Mine Safety Administration, told a press conference.
The declines were mainly due to tighter regulations and stricter enforcement of safety laws, Shi said.
No workplace accidents were reported during the recent weeklong National Day holiday, the administration said.
