JERUSALEM, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces detained the Palestinian Authority's governor of Jerusalem in a pre-dawn raid on Monday, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.

The Israeli police confirmed that Adnan Ghaith, a top Palestinian official, was detained but did not reveal the reason for his arrest.

According to Palestinian security forces, Ghaith was arrested in a raid in his home in Silwan, a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

Shadi Mutawar, secretary-general of the Fatah movement in Jerusalem, and Yasser Darwish, secretary-general of the Fatah movement in Isawiya, a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, were also arrested.

The three were arrested several times for collaborating with Palestinian security services and obstructing the sale of Palestinian houses and property in the city to settler associations, according to Israel.

Ghaith was summoned for questioning on Sept. 25 for suspicion of breaking an Israeli law that bans activities by the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem.

Israel seized East Jerusalem, along with the rest of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in the 1967 Middle East war.

It annexed East Jerusalem shortly later, claiming it part of its "indivisible capital," which has never been recognized by most of the international community as the Palestinians see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future independent state.
