Fortaleza beat Gremio to ease relegation fears

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Fortaleza came from behind to ease their relegation fears with a 2-1 home victory over Gremio in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.

The visitors went ahead in the 10th minute when Paulo Miranda headed in after a Rafael Galhardo free kick at the Castelao.

Striker Wellington Paulista then netted his 10th goal of the league campaign before setting up midfielder Osvaldo as Gremio took the lead just before halftime.

The hosts withstood a tense second-half to secure their ninth win of the campaign and move to 13th in the standings, five points clear of the relegation places.

Gremio, remained seventh with 11 wins, eight draws and eight losses.

In Sunday's fixtures leaders Flamengo will host Fluminense, Internacional are at home to Vasco da Gama and second-placed Palmeiras will visit Athletico Paranaense, among other matches.
