BEIRUT, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Thursday said that he was ready to meet with the representatives of the protesters and listen to their demands to resolve the current crisis.

"We can communicate together to reach a solution aimed at resolving the current situation," Aoun was quoted as saying by local TV channel Al Jadeed.

He said that the country's system is too old, because it has been paralyzed for years, but "we can modernize it through communication."

Aoun said that the protesters can supervise the implementation of the government's reforms and go back to demonstrations if reforms were not made on time.

"I will be your guarantee. I will be honest with you about everything that is happening, and I will exert much efforts to implement necessary reforms," he said.

Aoun said that there will be laws in the parliament to be approved very soon, including the creation of a special court for crimes related to public money squandering and anti-corruption laws.

He also noted that the economic paper announced by Prime Minister Saad Hariri earlier this week would constitute the beginning of the process to save the economy.

Aoun's remarks came after a week of nationwide demonstrations by protesters asking for the resignation of the government and change of the political system.
