WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Vlatko Andonovski is expected to replace Jill Ellis as coach of the United States women's soccer national team, local media reported on Thursday.
Andonovski spent the last two seasons as coach of Reign FC in the US National Women's Soccer League. He won two league titles with FC Kansas City in 2014 and 2015.
Andonovski will be officially named as coach of the national team next week, according to media reports.
Ellis announced in July that she would step down after leading the team to their second straight World Cup title in France this summer. Ellis departed with 106 victories and only seven losses.
Andonovski's immediate task with the United States women's team will be to qualify for next summer's Tokyo Olympics. The Americans, four-time Olympic champions, were knocked out in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, failing to medal for the first time since women's soccer joined the Olympics in 1996.
The United States players are set to take part in their first camp under Andonovski next month, when they play friendlies against Sweden on Nov. 7 and Costa Rica on Nov. 10.
