WINDHOEK, Oct. 29 ( Xinhua) -- Namibia's capital city Windhoek exceeded the weekly water-saving target by 7 percent, according to statistics released Tuesday by the municipality.

The capital city's weekly target is 465,000 cubic meters and consumption was 498,000 cubic meters, said the municipality.

"With very hot weather conditions predicted for southern Africa over the coming days, the public should please keep in mind that Windhoek is still challenged by severe water scarcity," the municipality said.

The municipality's Corporate Communication Officer, Botha Ellis said despite the slight rise in consumption, he said at the moment there is no indication that interruptions like water cuts and rationing will be conducted, but he urged citizens to use water sparely.

The Southern African Development Community Climate Services Center in a statement released Monday said that most of the central parts of the region stretching from southern Angola through eastern Namibia, Botswana, most of Zambia, Zimbabwe, southern Malawi to northern Mozambique and southern Tanzania are in a Heatwave WATCH category with temperatures expected to soar to between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius.
