NAIROBI, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenyans' best prospects for the New York marathon Sunday, Mary Keitany and Geoffrey Kamworor believe they are best prepared and are ready to lay claim to the titles.

Kamworor, 26, is eyeing his chance to secure revenge and reclaim the title he last won two years ago while Keitany is after writing history as the first athlete to win the race a record five times.

"As I depart to New York, I can confirm that my team have finished the preparations and will be heading to United States full of confidence," Kamworor said on Wednesday in Nairobi.

"The New York course suits me as a former cross-country runner. I finished second there in my debut in 2015 and was determined to return and finish at the top of the podium. In 2017, my dream came true. It was a huge source of motivation for me, moving forward," he said.

Despite being one of the favorites, Kamworor says he is under no pressure going to New York.

"I don't think being top adds any pressure because I have been in that situation before. I have already gone through the preparation and training. All I need now is to just get to the start line and be mentally ready for the race," he added.

For Keitany, she believes she has prepared well and is ready to fight for the title.

"I am ready to go to New York and fight to defend my title again for the fifth time having won it four times. I know it's not easy, but I'm certain the three months training I have undergone will enable me to do my best," said Keitany.

"I'm happy that I have won the race (New York Marathon) several times and again if I'm to win this time it will turn out historical. To me and my family, winning this marathon the fifth time will be a great achievement," she added.

Keitany joined Grete Waitz as the only woman to win the New York City Marathon four times or more. She will have to win a few more times to beat Waitz's record.

Being one of Kenyan elite who have overcome the allure of cheating, Keitany warned young runners that the key to success is hard working

"There is no shortcut, its hard work. Be disciplined and focused, nothing is impossible," Keitany said.
