LIMA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Cristian Benavente has been recalled to Peru's national squad for friendlies against Colombia and Chile next month, Blanquirroja head coach Ricardo Gareca said on Wednesday.
The Spanish-born 25-year-old, who last played for Peru in November last year, was rewarded for his impressive form with French club Nantes, who are currently second in the Ligue 1 standings.
But there was no place for midfielder Christian Cueva, who paid the price for his lack of recent playing time with Brazil's Santos.
Forward Andre Carrillo was also absent from the 23-man squad to allow him to play for Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League final against Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds.
Peru will play Colombia in Miami on November 14 and Chile in Lima five days later.
