Serbian Crvene Zvezde stuns Khimki in basketball Euroleague

BELGRADE, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Crvene Zvezde defeated Russian side Khimki in the sixth round of the basketball Euroleague 90-78 in Belgrade on Thursday.

Borisa Simanic gave the hosts an early lead scoring 10 points in the first quarter, which ended with Crvene Zvezde leading 28-22.

Crvene Zvezde extended the lead further in the second and third periods and came into the last quarter with a 24-point advantage.

The home team faced a resurgence from Khimki in the fourth quarter, and saw its lead cut by 12 points. However, Crvene Zvezde managed to seal their second win in the competition and handed Khimki their second defeat in six matches.

Simanic led the hosts with 18 points, followed by Billy Baron (17) and Stratos Perperoglou (15).

Khimki's Alexey Shved scored 14 points, while Devin Booker added 13 more.

Next week, Crvene Zvezde will host match against Real Madrid, while Khimki plays away against Zenit.
