WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- A plane crashed Friday afternoon at an air show in Stuart, Florida, killing the pilot, authorities said.

The male pilot was the only person aboard and no one on the ground was injured, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told reporters.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) tweeted they are investigating the crash, which occured on the first of three days for the air show.

The Stuart Air Show tweeted that Friday's activities were canceled and the air show was working to reschedule the activities on Saturday.

According to a statement from the air show, the Stuart airport "is closed to air traffic" and they "are waiting for the NTSB and County to finish their investigations into the incident."

The crashed plane, OV-1 Mohawk, is a two-seat, twin-engine reconnaissance aircraft built for the U.S. Army.
