SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Residents in a Northern California community still felt lingering fears Friday about a fatal shooting that killed five people and injured four others at a Halloween Party in a wealthy neighborhood northeast San Francisco.
Eunhee So, a 31-year-old woman said she had just moved to Long Ridge community not far away from the 100 block of Lucille Way in Orinda, Contra Costa County, Northern California, where a private Halloween party that ended up in a violent shooting overnight.
Police authorities said three people were killed from gunshot injuries at the scene and two others died at the hospital during the shooting at the Halloween party attended by more than 100 people.
So told reporters that she felt scared about the violent incident that she had never expected in a quiet, wonderful community.
"It's scary. I mean, I couldn't sleep. We all couldn't sleep. So we were just really scared," she told reporters.
"I'm feeling devastated with the people that are hurt, because it's just another shooting that we're dealing with again," she added.
She recalled that she was watching TV Thursday night when she heard a bunch of sirens and helicopters flying overhead.
"We got a call from our neighbor. And he just basically said, hey, there's a shooting. Lock all your doors," So said.
"It's scary, because we just moved here three weeks go," she said. "It's devastating ... I've never been so close to a shooting like this."
Edward Tom, a man who lived in a nearby neighborhood from the crime scene, said he did not hear any gunshots from the party but a lot of police cars clearly visible outside the window of his house.
"It's tragic. You know, it's really sad that something has had to happen like this, because it's a very normal, peaceful neighborhood," he said, adding he had never expected something like that.
Romond Reynolds, who lived in Vallejo, about 25 km north of Orinda, said his son was one of the injured victims at the Halloween party.
He said his 24-year-old son, Armani Reynolds, remained in hospital and remained stable as of Friday.
The father, who came to pick up his car, told Xinhua that he did not know what the cause was and had no clue to the shooting.
"I just know he (Armani) was in the wrong place at the wrong time," he said.
Makena Barkus, a woman who didn't live in the neighborhood where the tragedy occurred, said she walked her dogs there every day and felt shocked about the deadly shooting.
"I'm just surprised. It's a really quiet neighborhood where there are people home all the time, like people out in their yards, people driving to and from their houses during the day," she said.
It's a pretty nice, quiet neighborhood, and the shooting definitely affects neighborhoods and everyone around here, Barkus said.
On Friday evening, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office identified the fatalities as 22-year-old Tiyon Farley of Antioch, about 60 km northeast of San Francisco, 24-year-old Omar Taylor of Pittsburg, about 54 km northeast of San Francisco, 23-year-old Ramon Hill Jr. of San Francisco/Oakland, and 29-year-old Javin County of Sausalito/Richmond in the Bay Area.
Oshiana Tompkins, a 19-year-old girl of Vallejo/Hercules, was proclaimed as the fifth victim who died at a local hospital.
Police said they are still on an active investigation of the incident, but did not disclose the cause behind the shooting.
"The suspect is still outstanding," the police authorities said in a statement Friday evening.
They said the shooting was initially reported to have taken place at around 10:50 p.m. Thursday night (0550 GMT Friday).
Two firearms were found in the house rented on the AirBNB website for the Halloween event, according to the police.
The Orinda killing is one of several shootings reported recently in the United States during the Halloween season.
Also on Friday, two men were killed at a Halloween party near the small town of Roosevelt, Utah, a neighborhood of about 6,000 people east of Salt Lake City, local media reported.
