Family of 3 found dead in Istanbul over financial problems

ISTANBUL, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Friday found the dead bodies of three people in Istanbul, the third reported cyanide-related family deaths over financial troubles in days.

Among the dead is a child, and the smell of cyanide was detected in their apartment in the Bakirkoy district, local authorities said in a statement.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul issued a written statement, saying the father engaged in gold trade became debt-ridden after getting involved in unregistered online commercial transactions, and he was believed to poison his wife and child before committing suicide.

On Nov. 9, a family of four, including two children, killed themselves over financial troubles by taking cyanide in their apartment in the Mediterranean province of Antalya.

Three days earlier, four siblings poisoned themselves with cyanide over financial problems in their apartment in Istanbul.

The debt-stricken Turkish economy is suffering from recession, high inflation and unemployment.
