GAZA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A militant in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad on Friday died of critical wounds which he had during the last round of tension with Israel, medics said.
The Health Ministry in Gaza said in a press statement sent to reporters that Mohammad Sawarkeh, 40, succumbed to his wounds he sustained on Nov. 14 during the last round of escalation between Israel and the group's armed wing.
Sawarkeh is a senior militant in the Islamic Jihad armed wing and the commander of the group in central Gaza Strip, al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, announced in a press release.
Eight family members were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their house in Deir el-Ballah town in central Gaza Strip last week.
The health ministry said that 36 Palestinians, including women and children, had been killed in the last tension in the Gaza Strip that went on for two days.
The round of tension ended with a cease-fire agreement brokered by Egypt between the two sides.
