BRATISLAVA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The 16th round of Slovakia's premier football league Fortuna Liga produced a surprising 5-0 victory for the league's underdog Michalovce in the match-up against second-ranked Dunajska Streda on Saturday.
All five goals, including one own-goal, were scored in the first half which makes Michalovce's first win in the last seven matches all the more special. The team from the east of the country hired a new coach Jozef Majoros prior to this match with the intention to end the negative streak and this move resulted in the highest Fortuna Liga victory in the team's history. Both Modibo Sidibe and Peter Kolesar scored twice for the home team.
At the other end of the country, Slovan Bratislava stretched its winning streak to five. The leader of Fortuna Liga struggled against Sered until its Slovenian top-scorer Andraz Sporar entered the game in the 65th minute and scored two goals to secure a 2-0 victory for Bratislava. The team from Slovakia's capital city will finish the first half of the season on the top thanks to a 9-point lead in the rankings.
Third-ranked Zilina has been somewhat struggling lately, winning only two out of the last seven matches. Fortuna Liga's 2017 champion secured only a point in Nitra after a 0-0 draw.
Elsewhere, Trencin took the sixth spot in the standings from Trnava in a direct clash after a meager 1-0 victory. Trnava failed to capitalize on a great chance to tie things up late in the game after the author of the only goal, the Ghanian-born striker Osman Bukari, got sent off the pitch.
The league's newcomer Pohronie managed to put a lucky end to its four-game losing streak. Zlate Moravce scored the opening goal and later added an own goal to make things easy for the bottom-ranked Pohronie in the 1-1 draw.
Ruzomberok's undefeated streak which started on August 31 still continues. The fourth-ranked team managed to rally after being down by two in the first half against Senica, tying the 2-2 match in the 83rd minute on a penalty shot.
