BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A solo exhibition featuring the artwork of Xiong Bingming, a Chinese-French artist, kicked off at the National Art Museum of China (NAMC) in Beijing.
The exhibition, which is divided into three parts to showcase Xiong's artistic life and philosophical thinking, displays over 100 pieces including sculptures, oil paintings, prints, sketches, ink paintings, calligraphy, paper cutting and other works.
Xiong Bingming, son of famous Chinese mathematician Xiong Qinglai, was born in 1922 in Nanjing. After graduating from university in China, he went to Paris to study philosophy and sculpture in the late 1940s and started teaching Chinese culture, philosophy and calligraphy in Paris in the 1960s.
Xiong was appointed a tenured professor by the French Ministry of Education in 1984. In 2001, he was awarded as an honorary professor at Nanjing University.
In 2002, Xiong died in Paris at the age of 80.
Xiong's wife donated over 120 pieces of artwork to the NAMC on the occasion of the exhibition, which runs until Dec. 15.
