NEW DELHI, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Four members of a family were killed and three others injured after a domestic gas cylinder exploded inside their residential house in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Saturday.

The cylinder exploded Friday evening at Maitra area of Ramban district, about 145 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Last evening a woman along with her three daughters was killed and three other family members received serious burn injuries after a gas cylinder meant for cooking food suddenly caught fire and exploded in Ramban," a police official at police control room Jammu said. "The three injured were referred to the government medical college hospital here in critical condition."

Reports said hearing the blast, the villagers rushed toward the house to rescue inmates and inform police.

Accidental explosions are common in Indian-controlled Kashmir as house owners usually ignore safety standards.
