HO CHI MINH CITY, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Border guard forces of Vietnam’s southern An Giang province have detained a local woman for transporting 5.8 kg of marijuana from Cambodia to Vietnam.

The 33-year-old was caught red-handed transporting the drug in An Giang’s Tinh Bien district on Dec. 1, Vietnam News Agency reported on Monday.

She confessed that she was hired by a Cambodian man to carry marijuana from the neighboring Cambodia’s Takeo province to An Giang with the fee of 500,000 Vietnamese dong (22 U.S. dollars).

According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
