DAMASCUS, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb exploded on Monday in Syria's northern province of Aleppo, wounding three Russian soldiers patrolling nearby, a war monitor reported.

A Russian military unit was patrolling the outskirts of the Ayn al-Arab city in northern Aleppo countryside, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Britain-based watchdog said some military vehicles were damaged as well.

The Russian unit was monitoring villages in Ayn al-Arab as a prelude to the joint patrol in the area with Turkish soldiers.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear, but the site of the accident is close to areas controlled by the Turkey-backed rebels.

Joint patrol is part of a Russian-Turkish agreement that was recently reached to defuse the regional tension after Turkey launched a military campaign against Kurdish militants in northern Syria in October.
