AMMAN, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Monday condemned Israel's announcement of plans to build new settlements in several areas in the Palestinian territories.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday said the Israeli announcement undermines peace efforts and is a violation of all laws and conventions, according to a statement by the ministry.

The minister stressed that the Israeli settlements are illegal according to the international laws, stressing the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the Israeli settlements and force Israel to abide by implementing UN resolution 2334.

He warned against Israel' s continuation of building settlements, which he said undermines the two state solution and kills all opportunities for peace.

Safadi has recently said at a meeting for Arab foreign ministers that Israel will kill any peace opportunity if it annexes the Jordan Valley and northern parts of the Dead Sea in Palestine.

He added that the international community should take a firm stance in facing the continued Israeli aggression.

The minister also stressed the Arabs' commitment to peace as a strategic choice, adding nothing would change the fact that Israeli settlements are illegal.
