Tan Botian, a postgraduate student of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) who volunteers here as a head teacher, gives a science and technology class to students at Siyuan Experimental School in Rongshui Miao Autonomous County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Dec. 5, 2019. Rongshui is among the 20 deeply impoverished counties in south China's Guangxi. Off its 115 poor villages, 73 are deeply impoverished. Since 2015, the NPU has launched educational assistance to the county where education level is low. Relying on its S&T as well as educational resources, the NPU implemented several targeted educational support programmes, including teacher training and voluntary teaching, with the purpose of bringing advanced educational management thoughts and methods to the county. In September this year, a group of eight postgraduate students were sent by the NPU to some of the county's high schools to offer one-year voluntary teaching. They serve in different posts in schools to help carry out routine teaching. All those done by NPU has made a difference in improving the county's education level. (Xinhua/Huang Xiaobang)
