BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Gimnasia y Esgrima continued their resurgence under head coach Diego Maradona with a 2-1 home win over Central Cordoba in the Argentinian Superliga on Sunday.
Colombian forward Joao Rodriguez put the visitors ahead with a 13th-minute strike before Leandro Contin scored twice in 25 second-half minutes at El Bosque.
Gimnasia, who were last when Maradona took charge in early September, are now 21st in the 24-team standings as the Superliga enters a six-week summer recess.
The club from La Plata, around 60km southeast of Buenos Aires, has won four and drawn one of its 11 matches under the 59-year-old's command.
Central Cordoba have now gone three matches without a win and are 18th in the standings with 18 points from 16 matches.
Meanwhile, Boca Juniors hung on to the top spot on goal difference after a Sebastian Ribas strike handed Rosario Central 1-0 home win over the Buenos Aires giants.
