BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- To commemorate the world's oldest captive panda, the 2019 Basi Cultural Forum was held Wednesday in Fuzhou, east China’s Fujian Province.

Themed “Culture of Peace, Shared by the World”, the forum aims to tell the world the legendary story of the giant panda Basi, to promote China's traditional peaceful culture, to create a new public platform and to promote multicultural exchanges between nations.

Basi lived in Fuzhou for 33 years and was invited to visit the United States in 1987. In 1990, Basi was chosen as the model for Pan Pan, the mascot of the Beijing Asian Games, and became a household name.

In 2015, a short promotion video entitled "Basi says hello to the world" was shown in the Times Square.

Basi represented Chinese people's passion for peace and friendship on the global stage and helped to promote mutual understanding and dialogues between China and other nations, said Li Xiaolin, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).

About 200 Chinese and foreign representatives in the fields of public welfare, culture, science and technology, and sports participated in the forum.

They engaged in themed forum sessions on cross-cultural communication and cooperation and the global application of the Basi culture brand.

The Basi Culture Declaration was also released at the forum.

The forum was organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Fujian Provincial People's Government.
