MENDOZA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- River Plate secured their third Copa Argentina title with a 3-0 victory over Central Cordoba in the final here on Friday.

Veteran forward Nacho Scocco gave River the lead with a 33rd-minute strike before Ignacio Fernandez and Julian Alvarez found the target after halftime.

The result earned River a berth in the group phase of next year's Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club tournament.

It also drew the Buenos Aires giants level with rivals Boca Juniors as the most successful clubs in the history of the Copa Argentina.

River previously won the competition - which has only been played on an annual basis since 2011 - in 2016 and 2017. Boca took the title in 1969, 2012 and 2015.
