SANAA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Monday.

His visit comes as part of the UN efforts to push forward the peace process in the war-hit Yemen.

Griffiths will hold discussions with officials from the Houthi rebel group in Sanaa for resuming the stalled peace process since the Yemeni warring parties reached the Stockholm agreement one year ago.

The UN-brokered Stockholm agreement was reached by the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Sweden on Dec. 13, 2018.

The cease-fire deal focused on Yemeni key port city of Hodeidah as the first phase toward a comprehensive political solution to end Yemen's over four-year civil war.

The war since 2014 has killed tens of thousands of Yemeni people and pushed Yemen to the brink of famine.
