SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and five others were wounded as a roadside bomb struck a vehicle in Shiberghan, capital of northern Jawzjan province on Tuesday, provincial governor's spokesman Mohammad Marouf Azar said.

"A mine planted by the insurgents struck a vehicle on a road in Shiberghan, killing one person and wounding five others today," Azar told Xinhua.

Without providing more details, the official said that an investigation had been initiated into the incident.

This was the second roadside bomb that claimed the lives of people in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The first roadside bomb explosion, which happened in Ali Shir district of eastern Khost province early in the morning, claimed the lives of 10 civilians including three children and two women.
