KHARTOUM, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Tuesday signed a framework agreement to tackle humanitarian issues at South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions, Sudan's Sovereign Council said in a statement.
The agreement was signed in Juba, capital of South Sudan, which is mediating in the peace talks between the Sudanese parties.
Deputy Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Daqlu, signed for the government, SPLM leader Malik Agar signed for the movement, while Tut Gatluak, South Sudan's presidential adviser on security affairs, signed the agreement, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Yasir Arman, the deputy chairman of the SPLM, said in a statement that a joint committee will be formed to assess the humanitarian needs, provide aid, open border crossings and determine corridors to deliver the relief materials to the war-affected population there.
South Sudan has been mediating between the Sudanese government and the armed groups from Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.
On Dec. 11, a new round of peace talks kicked off between the Sudanese parties in Juba.
