TOKYO, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Vissel Kobe won the Japanese Emperor's Cup champion by beating five-time winner Kashima Antlers 2-0 in the first sporting event at Tokyo's 2020 Olympic Stadium here on Wednesday.

Vissel took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to an own goal by Kashima defender Tomoya Inukai and then sealed the victory with a deflected goal off striker Noriaki Fujimoto in the 38th minute.

It was Vissel's first time to win the Emperor's Cup, which helped them guarantee an Asian Champions League berth next season.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Stadium, with a capacity of 68,000, was officially opened on November 20 but was used for the first time to stage a sporting event.

The venue will host athletics competition during the Games, as well the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics.
