COLOMBO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's foreign ministry on Monday said it is deeply concerned over the growing tensions in the Middle East following the killing of a senior Iranian military officer.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said the island country urged all parties to act with utmost restraint and maintain peace and security through constructive dialogue in order to de-escalate the threat to the stability of the region.
Millions packed the streets of the Iranian capital Tehran for the funeral of Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani who was killed in a drone strike in Iraq last Friday.
Reports said Iran has vowed "severe revenge" for the death of Soleimani and on Sunday pulled back from the 2015 nuclear accord.
