Global dairy prices increase at the first auction in 2020

WELLINGTON, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Dairy prices increased by 2.8 percent at the first Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction in 2020.

The GDT price index increased 2.8 percent from the previous auction in 2019. The average price was 3,371 U.S. dollars per tonne. Total trading volume reached 33,050 tonnes.

At the latest GDT auction, whole milk powder lifted 1.7 percent to 3,150 U.S. dollars per tonne.

Rennet casein jumped up 8.6 percent to 8,973 U.S. dollars per tonne, butter milk powder gained 7.4 percent to 3,040 U.S. dollars per tonne, while skim milk powder increased 5.4 percent to 3,026 U.S. dollars per tonne.

Anhydrous milk fat climbed 2.3 percent to 4,929 U.S. dollars per tonne. Butter and Cheddar prices grew 3.7 percent each to 4,029 U.S. dollars and 4,015 U.S. dollars respectively per tonne. Lactose also increased by 2.1 percent to 798 U.S. dollars per tonne.

The price of sweet whey powder was not available at the latest auction.
