TEHRAN, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Ukrainian passenger plane crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport on Wednesday morning, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The ill-fated Flight PS-752, which belongs to the Ukrainian UIA Airlines, is supposed to be a Boeing 737 with 180 on board bound for Kiev.

Ali Khashani, a spokesman for Imam Khomeini International Airport, told Fars news agency, an Iranian semi-official news agency, that the accident was likely caused by technical problems.
