AMMAN, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday denounced Israel's plan to build 1,936 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli settlements are illegal and constitute a violation of international law and international humanitarian law, said Deifallah Fayez, a spokesman of the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, in a statement obtained by Xinhua.
The spokesman urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and take all necessary measures to stop the Israeli settlement policy that undermines efforts to resolve the conflict and achieve full peace.
He also called on the international community to obligate Israel to implement international legitimacy resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334.
Jordan and Israel signed a peace deal in 1994.
