BEIRUT, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday called for forming a new government within two weeks.

"Parties should have learned from previous experiences by forming a government within two weeks in maximum," Berri told reporters.

He said that Lebanon's situation is getting even worse, while slamming political parties for delaying the government formation.

"They decide to form a government excluding former ministers and then we get surprised to know that they are discussing the appointment of former ministers," he said.

Berri insisted that the right choice for the coming period is forming a polytechnic cabinet where civil protesters can be represented as well.

Lebanon's newly appointed Prime Minister Hassan Diab has been trying to form a government in the past weeks, but he faces obstacles due to the disagreements among political parties with regard to the distribution of portfolios among different sects.

Lebanon is currently in dire need for a new government amid economic and financial crises with a public debt of over 86 billion U.S. dollars.
