RIYADH, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Thursday met with visiting French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian to discuss bilateral ties and regional affairs.

The two sides reviewed the bilateral ties and means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the various fields, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and discussed a host of regional and international issues of mutual interest, it added.

No further details were revealed by the report.

The French top diplomat's visit came amid escalating tensions in the region as Iran, Saudi Arabia's arch rival, launched a missile attack last week on the U.S. troops in Iraq in retaliation for the U.S. killing of a top Iranian commander.
