UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday sent his Chinese Lunar New Year greetings, thanking China and the Chinese people for their support to the UN.

In a video message, Guterres said "Chun Jie Kuai Le" (Happy Lunar New Year) in Chinese as the opening line of his greetings.

He stressed that 2020 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the beginning of a decade of action for the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

"At this time of turmoil and divisions, we must work together to find solutions to global challenges and to build a better future for all," Guterres urged.

He thanked China and the Chinese people for their support to the UN and multilateralism, and wished the Chinese community "good health, happiness and success."

The upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Year of the Rat, which falls on Jan. 25 this year, is the most important festival for the Chinese people.
