BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TOKYO -- Japan on Thursday confirmed 474 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's cumulative total to 80,592, not including infections related to a cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo earlier in the year.

A group of experts on virus prevention advising the health ministry said Thursday that while the nation had seen new infections mark a downward trajectory of late, with cases in the seven days through Sept. 22 totaling 3,287, dropping from 3,731 recorded in the previous week, Japan could see a resurgence in infections.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported one new imported case of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the national tally to 146.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, the patient is a 29-year-old local male who arrived at Brunei on Sept. 18 from India. The man reportedly showed no signs of infection and is currently being treated at the National Isolation Center.

DOHA -- The Qatari Health Ministry on Wednesday announced 250 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of the confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 124,425, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Meanwhile, 257 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 121,263, while the fatalities remained 212 as no new deaths were reported, according to a ministry statement quoted by QNA.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi health authorities decided Thursday to lift the nationwide partial curfew, while the Health Ministry reported 4,471 new COVID-19 cases across the country.

The Iraqi Higher Committee for Health and National Safety, headed by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, decided to lift the partial curfew which was scheduled from 10:00 p.m. (1900 GMT) to 05:00 a.m. (0200 GMT), local media reported citing an official document issued by the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

YANGON -- The death toll from COVID-19 in Myanmar rose to 150, with 17 newly reported deaths on Thursday night, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

A total of 517 confirmed cases were also reported in the country on Thursday night, the release said.

The newly confirmed cases brought the number of total infection cases of COVID-19 in the country to 8,344. Enditem
