JERUSALEM, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Minister of Health Yuli Edelstein said in radio interviews on Tuesday that the ongoing COVID-19 full nationwide lockdown will be extended for at least another two weeks, starting on Oct. 11.

The lockdown took effect on Sept. 18 for 23 days in the first phase, with the possibility of extension.

Edelstein told Kan Radio, Israel's national radio, and military radio Galei Zahal that "there is no chance or scenario that in 12 days we will lift everything up and say everything is fine. We learned our lesson from the previous lockdown in April."

He added that "this time, all pressures for a quick exit from the closure would not help. We must get used to the idea that we are going to live with the coronavirus for quite some time."

On Monday, the number of coronavirus victims in Israel crossed 1,500, while the number of active cases currently stands at 66,566. Enditem
