BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.2 percent at 3,218.05 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.05 percent higher at 12,907.45 points.
The combined turnover of the two bourses shrank slightly to 540 billion yuan (about 79.29 billion U.S. dollars) from 545 billion yuan in the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 890 to 491 on the Shanghai bourse, and by 1,341 to 837 on Shenzhen.
Shares related to photovoltaic, liquor and vaccine led the gains, with Shede Spirits Co., Ltd. surging by 4.83 percent to 31.25 yuan per share.
Companies in tourism and coal sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.44 percent to close at 2,574.76 points Wednesday. Enditem
