MADRID, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The closing of the transfer window on Monday night came without a great deal of activity in Spain.
FC Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman was left frustrated as the club failed to complete deals to bring central defender Alex Garcia and forward Memphis Depay to the club from Manchester City and Olympique Lyon respectively.
Koeman had made no secret that he wanted the duo and the failure to sign Garcia leaves Barca looking especially lightweight in central defense, where they only have Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet, with Ronald Araujo to provide cover.
Meanwhile Barca loaned 20-year-old left back Joan Miranda to Betis, while Rafinha Alcantara was sold to Paris Saint Germain for a bargain three million euros and central defender Jean-Clair Todibo (who is not in Koeman's plans) was loaned to Benfica on a two-year deal.
It was a case of one in and one out for Atletico Madrid, who lost midfielder Thomas Partay to Arsenal after the Premier League club paid the 50 million euro buyout clause of the Ghanaian international.
Thomas will be a big loss for Atletico, but the club were able to compensate partly for his loss with Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira arriving on loan from Arsenal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for 20 million euros.
Sevilla presented their last two signings of the summer with Karim Rekik and Oussama Idrissi joining Julen Lopetegui's side, who once again look to have worked well in the transfer market, despite failing to sign Real Sociedad's Willian Jose.
Elsewhere, Athletic Club were linked with a late return of former striker Fernando Llorente only for the deal to fall through, while Valencia coach Javi Gracia is rumored to be considering resigning after a summer which saw the departure of players such as Dani Parejo, Ezequiel Garay and Rodrigo Moreno without any new arrivals to strengthen a squad which failed to qualify for Europe last season.
