ABUJA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and eight others injured when a three-story building under construction collapsed on Sunday in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, officials said.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the cause of the incident at the Obalende neighborhood of the Lagos island is yet unknown.

The bodies of four people, including one female, had so far been recovered by responders, said Nosa Okunbor, a spokesman for LASEMA, adding eight other injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Residents in the neighborhood told Xinhua that although it was an uncompleted building, a number of people took shelter in the place before it partially collapsed.

Many are feared to be trapped in the building, although responders, who are still working to rescue more victims, arrived early, said Olalekan Kayode, a resident.

"Some of the victims were people living around the collapsed building," he added.

Authorities said an investigation was immediately launched to find the cause of the incident. Enditem
