KIEV, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has repaid foreign debts worth over 2 billion U.S. dollars in September, meaning the country has passed the peak of external public debt payments this year, the finance ministry reported on Thursday.

According to Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, the ministry had redeemed the second series of foreign government bonds issued during debt restructuring in 2015. The amount of payments exceeded 2 billion dollars.

Marchenko noted that the state budget's deficit is currently smaller than calculated previously, and the government does not see the need to increase the country's debt burden.

According to the ministry, as of Sept. 1, Ukraine's foreign debt has reached 43.53 billion dollars. As of Oct. 1, Ukraine has paid 6.3 billion dollars of the 6.9-billion-dollar foreign debt needed to be paid this year. Enditem
