ISLAMABAD, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of shops were burnt to ashes in a high-intensity fire that broke out in a famous electronics plaza in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore on Sunday, local media and rescue officials said.

According to the reports, the multi-storey plaza named Hafeez Center located in the city's Gulberg Main Boulevard area was engulfed in flames after the fire broke out on its second floor.

Rescue teams and firefighters rushed to the site and started a fire-extinguishing operation.

Rescue officials told media that the fire broke out in a shop on the second floor and spread to other floors of the plaza where laptops, mobile phones and other electronic items are sold.

No loss of life or injury was reported yet, said the rescue officials, adding that teams are working to rescue those people who were trapped and took refuge at the roof of the plaza.

Firefighters told local media that around 60 personnel are taking part in the operation, adding that the fire broke out due to an electric short circuit in a shop.

The intensity of the fire increased due to the burning of electronic gadgets and devices including laptops and mobile phones, the firefighters added. Enditem
