NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 test positivity rate in the "Red Zone" focus areas, where the pandemic has been the most severe in New York State, was 3.31 percent on Sunday, compared with 3.19 percent one day earlier, tweeted Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday.

The statewide positivity rate excluding "Red Zones" was 1.13 percent on Sunday, over 1.0 percent on Saturday, said Cuomo, adding that of the 82,009 tests reported Sunday, 998 were positive, or 1.21 percent of total, over 1.08 percent one day earlier.

Among 50 U.S. states and District of Columbia, New York State has had the third lowest positivity rate of COVID-19 test, according to the seven-day rolling average updated on Monday by Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

New York ranked No. 49 with 1.16 percent positivity rate of COVID-19 test, Massachusetts No. 50 with 1.13 percent, and Maine No. 51 with 0.51 percent, said the Hopkins statistics.

Though New York now has the third lowest positivity rate of COVID-19 test, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University so far reported 33,357 coronavirus deaths toll in the state, the worst among all the states of the country. Enditem
